installing webmin and enabling ftp, telnet for root

Managing Linux can become quite easy if you install webmin. Before installing webmin you need to enable telnet and ftp access so that you can copy files.

ENABLING ROOT TO ACCESS TELNET
===============================================

[root@localhost bin]# cd /etc
[root@localhost etc]# mv securetty securetty.mov
[root@localhost etc]#

ENABLING ROOT TO ACCESS FTP
===========================================

/etc/init.d/vsftpd start

Edit the files /etc/vsftpd.ftpusers and /etc/vsftpd.user_list and remove the 'root' line from each file.

INSTALLING WEBMIN
===========================================

[root@localhost root]# ftp 10.203.129.2 ( Ip addresses of linux box)
Connected to 10.203.129.2 (10.203.129.2).
Name (10.203.129.2:root): root
331 Password required for administrator.
Password:
230 User root logged in.

ftp> mget web*

mget webmin-1.210-1.0.rh9.rf.noarch.rpm? y

227 Entering Passive Mode (10,203,129,2,5,223).
125 Data connection already open; Transfer starting.
226 Transfer complete.

ftp> bye
